Algorithmic Determination of Flexibility Using Resultants

Discovering flexibility of two- and three-dimensional structures has been a mathematical problem since the time of Cauchy. Recently such questions have become prominent in computational chemistry. We will discuss how to detect flexibility by examining the resultant of a system of polynomial equations that defines the object.
