A Short-Short Overview of Machine Learning at UNM

Many of you are, by now, aware of the machine learning course being offered in our department, and you may even be vaguely aware of some of the research that’s happening. But not all of you know much about either of the above. In this talk, I’ll give a brief overview of what machine learning is all about (and why you should care). I’ll also give some overviews of the work that my research group is doing. But most of the time will be spent with two of your colleagues from my research group discussing their research projects: Bayesian modeling for neuroscience and spectral methods for learning about social structures.
