This talk will cover recent developments in image representation from a topological point of view. Computer display and digital image capture resolutions are growing rapidly. This work aims to address the emerging need for resolution independent display of image data. Vector image representations have been traditionally used for character/font display and illustrations. While these representations permit resolution independent display, they have a number of drawbacks that make them undesirable for use with general images. The proposed method integrates vector and raster image representations to leverage the advantages of both, and applies the mathematical machinery of algebraic topology to provide a rigorous theoretical foundation.
