Dr. Herbert Lin

Dr. Herbert Lin has served at the National Research Council?s Computer Science and Telecommunications Board since 1990, where he now serves as chief scientist. He has been study director of major projects on public policy and information technology. Dr. Lin is an internationally recognized expert on cyber security and cyber policy and has also written on privacy and the ethics of emerging military technologies. Prior to his NRC service, he was a professional staff member and staff scientist for the House Armed Services Committee, where his portfolio included defense policy and arms control issues. He received his doctorate in physics from MIT. Part of the Spring 2014 Symposium, "U.S. National Security and Individual Privacy Legal, Technical, and Ethical Challenges".
