About Us
Founded in 1969, the Computer Science Department in the UNM School of Engineering offers Bachelor's, Master’s and PhD degrees. Our ABET-accredited, strongly interdisciplinary program has 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and two lecturers.
The UNM CS Department boasts very high research activity in a number of areas including high-performance computing, game theory and collaborative computing, computational medicine, DNA computing, biologically-inspired computation, formal methods and automated reasoning and privacy, security and computational immunology. In the 2012-2013 fiscal year, the department’s research expenditures exceeded $3.74M (or over $220K per faculty) with externally sponsored research grants from NSF, DOE, DARPA, NIH, DOD, ARL as well as several corporate gifts and contracts.
The department also has very strong ties and collaborations with nearby research laboratories like the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Sandia National Laboratories and the Santa Fe Institute.
We are located in Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, featuring easy access to high desert and mountain environments. In addition to many recreational opportunities, New Mexico is a well known center for the arts and other cultural activities.
